Meet our Governors

Mrs Emily Meek - Chair

Emily started as a Foundation Governor in 2013 initially for Awliscombe Primary School where her two children attended school, and from 2015 for the Fort Federation. Emily is currently the Safeguarding Lead Governor for the federation.
She has worked as a School Nurse in the wider local area and is now working as Head of Year 9 and PHSE lead at Honiton College.

Mr Nick Thwaites

Nick became a foundation governor when his twin daughters were in Year One at Awliscombe Primary and was Chair for 3 years. He has continued to serve as a governor for the federation and takes a lead on the Teaching & Learning Committee on curriculum matters.  Nick provides an important link between the PCC and federation schools. He spent many years as a solicitor but now designs and makes furniture to commission.

Mr Nick Bladon

Nick has been teaching for more than 20 years, having spent 10 years teaching in the Midlands and was assistant head of a large primary, before moving to Devon in 2011. Nick is Head of School at Payhembury Primary School and is the staff governor for both schools on the governing body.

Mr Paul Cann

Paul is a foundation governor for the FORT Federation having joined the governors of Payhembury School as a parent governor in 2012. Paul sits on the Resources Committee where he is the lead Finance Governor and is able to use some of his professional expertise gained through his career in the investment management industry.

Mr Stuart Coombe

Stuart joined as a parent governor in 2020.  Whilst remaining objective Stuart is able to give feedback and insight on a parent's perspective of all aspects of the school experience. Stuart is Chair of the Teaching and Learning Committee and Vice-Chair of the Governing Body. He is able to bring his professional experience to ensuring the schools continue to improve and succeed.

Mrs Caroline Coxon

Caroline is now retired having spent her working life teaching in both secondary and primary schools. In addition Caroline delivered Sunday School and helpt with a Church youth club for a number of years.

Caroline is passionate about promoting children's happiness, sense of self worth and self confidence as well as ensuring they make academic progress, and this has led her to the role of Foundation governor at Fort Federation. Caroline also regularly attends school hear children read and make visits to the Church.

Mrs Pat Fowler

Pat is a Foundation Governor at Fort Federation and sits on the Teaching & Learning Committee with responsibility for SEND and Pupil Premium. Pat lives in Payhembury and her and husband Clive have two children and four grandchildren - three attending Payhembury School and is a regular on the school playground at home time!

Pat worked in primary education for over 35 years, firstly in Shropshire, then Leicestershire and latterly in East Devon, as Head teacher of a Church of England Primary School for 14 years. Now retired, Pat brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and school leader board of governors at Fort Federation. Pat enjoys the challenge of keeping abreast with the many changes that are occurring in primary education and is passionate about ensuring that all children have the very best start in their school life, are nurtured, encouraged and challenged and able to thrive in a happy, secure and caring environment.  

 

 

 

 

Matt Rance

Matt was born in Berkshire and has lived in rural communities throughout his life and understands the importance of the Village school as the centre of village life.

Matt has always worked in the agricultural sector and is currently the Director of a feed business and brings that leadership experience to the board.

Matt previously served on the Payhembury Parish Council for 4 years, and his wife and children have all attended Payhembury Primary School. He currently  has a young son at the school and has been able to see first-hand the support available for children and is committed to supporting the school by serving as a governor.
